Wind knocks out power to 4,000

Winds gusting as high as 42 mph caused 4,000 customers, including some in Gloucester and Essex, to lose power Friday afternoon. A tree came down across lines on Essex Street in Beverly at 4:35 p.m., cutting electricity to 4,000 customers in parts of Beverly, Wenham, Hamilton, Essex and Gloucester, according to National Grid spokesperson Debbie Drew.
